“Modern-Day Slavery” by The Palm Beach Post is an engaging, in-depth examination of the human cost of Florida’s agricultural harvest. Reporters and photographers showed great enterprise in documenting the hardships migrant workers endure to enter the United States and the abuse many of them suffer while working here.

Particularly noteworthy was a trip taken at personal risk by a reporter and a photographer who accompanied a group of migrants being smuggled over the border. The resulting package gave readers a vivid sense of the hazards of the journey.

The series performed a public service by taking readers to places many would not or could not go themselves and exposing abuses that often are not high on the public’s radar.
