Greg Lovett
sure embraced the spirit of the Palm Beach Post's annual "Season
to Share."
He captured
in simple black-and-white the memorable face of a blind woman who
was one of the beneficiaries of the annual charitable emphasis.
Then the Photographer of the Year further aided the lady by picking
up her dog at the veterinarian's office.
"Renata Myers,
eighty-six years old, is a German lady who lives alone in a small
trailer in Port St. Lucie," Lovett said.
"She is legally
blind. She needed a video magnifier that cost four thousand dollars,
to help her read.
"I spent an
afternoon at her home, just getting to know her and making her feel
at ease. A secret to making good photographs is to have a connection
with the person; it's the hardest part. Once, you have established
a good rapport, you just have to spend time until the picture comes.
"In this case,
I got the best picture early. But, I stayed for several hours and
even picked up her dog from the vet before I left.
"It's all about
giving something to the people that you are doing stories about.
If you don't care, it will show in your photographs."
