Page Layout
Sarah Franquet / Palm Beach Post

Sarah Franquet is a multitalented designer for the Palm Beach Post.

"Her story ideas are good ones," says Mark Buzek, the Post's graphics director.

"Her illustration ideas are terrific. She can set up photo shoots or talk to artists, then write the stories and as a grand finale, she's an incredible page designer."

Whether the subject matter is sand castles, scary dolls, or a guide for visitors to Florida, Franquet's eye for detail is sure to engage readers of the Post.

She has been a page designer at the newspaper for seven years, handling mostly features design but occasionally tackling pages for other departments, too.

Before moving to West Palm Beach, Franquet spent 10 years in North Carolina at the Charlotte Observer. She held several positions there, including designer, editor of a weekly entertainment magazine and deputy features editor.

Her career began in Folkston, Ga., at the weekly Charlton County Herald, where her "news editor" position included everything from reporting to pasting up pages.

From there, she went to the Augusta Chronicle as a reporter, then later metro copy and layout editor. In 1981, she became the first lifestyle editor at the now-defunct Gwinnett Daily News, a small but feisty paper near Atlanta.

Franquet is a native of Milledgeville, Ga., and graduated with a journalism degree from Georgia Southern College in 1980.

Her work has been recognized by the Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards, the Society for News Design, and other competitions.

Husband Pete is a flight attendant with United Airlines.

JUDGES' COMMENTS:
"Franquet's pages consume without overwhelming the reader. Her design is always dramatic, big-feeling but still comfortable."
