Headline Writing
Mike Burke / Palm Beach
Post
Good wordsmiths
like Mike Burke know that to stay fresh they need to read a great
deal and not just what they see on their Macintosh computer
screens at work.
"I do a lot of reading, including many chores I passed up in college,"
Burke said.
"A fair amount of it is heavy reading. I like Joseph Conrad, early
Ernest Hemingway, and Somerset Maugham."
Burke is a copy
editor for the Post's
Accent section, and his winning headlines were about subjects as
diverse as "body adornment," fashion and television sitcoms.
The Springfield,
