About the Awards
The Judges

Arnold Rosenfeld, senior vice-president and editor-in-chief, chaired the Best of Cox Awards.

The preliminary judges were Jim Bentley, former managing editor, Cox News Service; Jeff Dickerson, editorial writer and columnist, Atlanta Journal; Andrew J. Glass, senior correspondent, Cox Newspapers; Charles E. Glover, columnist and former president and editor-in-chief, Cox Newspapers; Durwood McAlister, former editorial page editor, Atlanta Journal; Arnold Rosenfeld; and Michael Schwartz, manager of administration and training, Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The final judges were Rick Christie, foreign editor, Cox News Service; Martha Ezzard, staff writer, Atlanta Journal-Constitution; David Kraslow, former publisher, Miami News; Mary C. Schulken, editorial page editor, Greenville Daily Reflector; Arnold Rosenfeld; Michael Schwartz; and Tom Teepen, national correspondent, Cox Newspapers.

There were 471 entries this year -- 155 in Metro, 263 in Community and 53 in Combined.

For purposes of the contest, the following are in the Metro Division: Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Austin American-Statesman, Dayton Daily News, Palm Beach Post and Cox Washington Bureau.

And for purposes of the contest, the following are in the Community Division: Elizabeth City Daily Advance, Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Greenville Daily Reflector, Longview News-Journal, Lufkin Daily News, Marshall News Messenger, Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, Palm Beach Daily News, Rocky Mount Telegram, Springfield News-Sun and Waco Tribune-Herald.
